Problem

We worked with a technology retailer to create a more engaging, customized shopping experience at their stores for the holiday season. In the fast-evolving retail landscape, digital experiences that span devices and locations have become the norm. Our client wanted to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring their retail locations continue to provide educational, immersive and inspirational experiences.

Solution

By utilizing our expertise in the areas of voice and chat and AI, we created a chatbot which lived on a device in select retail locations. The chatbot served as a gift recommendation tool, helping customers find the perfect item for those hard to shop for friends and family members. In just a few questions, our chatbot was able to identify interests, provide a set of recommendations from the stores’ inventory management system, and eventually identify the perfect gift.

Results

Over the 2018 holiday season at select locations, the chatbot had 596 conversations with customers and made 1290 gift matches. Customers who chatted with the bot stayed longer, and remained connected to the brand after they left the physical location. The solution freed up time for store associates during the busy holiday season, ensuring a more delightful, personalized retail experience.
